Open House at the Fire Station

A few weeks ago they had an open house at our Fire Station. I went. It was really relaxed and interesting. They of course had all kinds of rescue vehicles. Since we live near lakes and a marsh they had special ones that rescue people in those areas. They also had two antique trucks. This one below just fascinated my two boys.
They had such a blast playing in it. Emma went in the big truck but Ash was too scared.

Inside you could see all kinds of fire safety stuff and talk to fire fighters or EMTs and such. They had a special appearance by their mascot dog - and Jake was way too interested in him. Jake stood there and pointed and said look, and dog, and make dog noises for about 15 minutes before I just moved us all somewhere else.

This is their smoke house. It is a small house that they take kids through to show them how to get out in case of a fire. It is filled with fake smoke and then kids can crawl and feel doors and such. To get out they have to go out a window and down the ladder. Emma loved this.

Then each kid got a chance to put out a fire with a fire extinguisher. Talk about cool! Of course the fire was just some lit gasoline in a metal box but Emma really liked this too.
Even scaredy-pants-Ash got into this. He would not dress up, go in the firetruck, or anything. Sheesh! Then all he talks about when we leave is how cool it was. And he keeps dressing up like a fireman now.

Next super fun one was to drive the snowmobile rescue vehicle. This thing has treads like a tank! And it tows a sled that holds a person. And its a John Deer - did not know they made vehicles like this.

All in all - a super fun few hours with real old-fashioned made hot dogs! Quite yummy actually.
